Makoto Komatsu, born in 1948, is a thoroughly involved designer who chooses to experiment with materials and processes by continually making prototypes throughout his design process. The designer has exhibited extensively throughout Japan, Europe and across Asia. He notes that his crinkle/crumple series (seen here) is one of his most important series to date. Along with the drinking vessels the series included porcelain vases and cups and a crumpled ‘bag’ vase.
Makoto says he ‘would like to create something that makes our personal daily life and society comfortable”
